Review

The ACCUSPLIT AE120XL is a very simple, conventionally designed pedometer.  While it doesn't do anything special, the relatively low price combined with the long battery life and 5 year warranty make it a good value.  If you want a pedometer with many extra functions look elsewhere, but if you're happy with a simple one, you may like the AE120XL.

If you're top priority in a pedometer is simplicity, then you won't be able to do much better than this model.  The display is large and easy to read, and you don't have to worry about selecting the appropriate mode or function.  In fact, there is only one button, and that's the reset button, which some people like to push every morning to get a new set of daily statistics.  Also, the step count will constantly be displayed, and can track up to 100,000 steps walked or jogged.

Even though there are no advanced features, the AE120XL pedometer comes with some extra accessories to enhance its value.  Two different belt clips, a plastic one and a metal one, are included in the package.  You also get a 3-way leash that can be attached, so in case it falls off your belt, it still will not fall to the ground.  Additionally, the AE120XL needs a minimal amount of power to function, so the lithium battery should last a very long time, and 5 years is not unusual.

Also included with the pedometer is the "From Tee to Green" activity wellness program and guide.  It provides a lot of suggested ways that you can increase your daily walking to get that step count higher, and gives many other fitness enhancing pieces of advice.  The guide uses a golf theme, but if you don't play golf that's okay, as it can be just as useful whether you play or not.

Besides the lack of extras, the other downside of the ACCUSPLIT AE120XL is that it too easily can give an inaccurate step count.  If you find that your count is off, it's probably not because the pedometer is broken, but it usually means you're not wearing it exactly as you should.  The user manual will give some tips on how to correctly wear the pedometer, and also make sure that the case is shut and on your hip as straight as possible.  When worn in the correct fashion it will be accurate, but it would be nice if there was a larger margin or error.
