Review

Like other Silva pedometers, this model works by wearing it on the wrist as though it were a typical digital watch.  Even though it's not worn on the hip, it remains quite accurate.  In fact, it's more accurate than many conventional pedometers.  It also comes with several extra functions, and is available in a men's and women's style.  It has a lot of small problems, but overall is very nice.

The Tech 4 0 hiker pedometer is worn like any other watch, and functions by using accelerometer sensor technology.  This means that it's able to sense the user's movement or acceleration, which in turn produces an electric current.  Then, this information is used to measure speed and distance.  Although it isn't perfectly accurate, it's more accurate than many, if not most, pedometers.

Since this pedometer is designed specifically to be used for hiking, it has a number of features that are made for this purpose.  If you hike with a heavy pack weight, you can actually enter how heavy your pack is into the pedometer, and it will use this information to optimize the calculation of how many calories you are burning and how many steps are being taken.  Additionally, the pedometer will adjust to different terrains, so whether you're hiking in a field or up a mountain, it will still be quite accurate.

Not only does this pedometer come with hiking features, but there are a number of other functions that can be enjoyed by anyone.  By entering your stride length and weight, you can get customized distance and calorie numbers.  Also, it will figure how fast you are walking.  And because it is made to be used like a digital watch as well as a pedometer, you can use it as a stopwatch, or just to tell time.  It even has a built in memory storage, which will keep track of your statistics for a full week.

The downside to this pedometer, beside the higher price, is that there are many small problems with it.  It can be confusing to operate, and the instructions are not all that helpful, so it will take a while to figure out how to use every feature.  Another problem is that the display is prone to scratching and damage, and can easily produce glare, and you won't be able to read your pedometer easily.  Still, if you prefer a wrist pedometer, this is a very good buy.
